Samsung slashing smartphone prices from Jan

Samsung is slashing prices of its smartphones from January, thanks to stiff competition from brands like Micromax, Colors, Sony and Lenovo, among others.

Officials of International Marketing Services (IMS) - the authorized distributor of Samsung in Nepal - confirmed that prices of Samsung smartphones would go down form the first week of January. “But we can´t say by how much margin the prices will be cut as we are yet to get confirmation from Samsung,” an official of IMS said.

A snap survey conducted by Republica shows Samsung is losing market share, albeit marginally, and new smartphone brands like Micromax, Colors, Lenovo and Sony, among others, are making gains. Lenovo, which is yet to be launched formally here, is gaining popularity in Nepal.
 
A New Road-based dealer of Samsung told Republica that IMS is decreasing prices of Samsung smartphones by 8-15 percent from the first week of January. “Samsung smartphones are priced comparatively higher in Nepal than other countries, including India and Thailand,” the dealer said preferring anonymity. “Stiff competition in the market is forcing IMS to go for a price cut.”
 
Samsung India had slashed prices of various smartphone models in October. It had reduced price of Galaxy S4 Mini (16GB) and Galaxy S3 by around IRs 4,000. According to Times of India, Samsung had cut the price of its flagship phablet -- Galaxy Note 3 -- by IRs 2,000 in October end within a month of its launch.

“If I get all the features that a Samsung phone has on a cheaper phone, there is no point paying more for just the brand,” Alisa Pradhananga, a user of Colors phone, told Republica.

Vivek Sharma Dhandh, managing director of Virgin Mobiles, said people do not hesitate to pay ay amount for new gadgets with latest features. “But if they get the same features at lower price, they will definitely go for it regardless of the brand,” he added.

As the average life of mobile phones is around two years and technology gets updated day by day, dealers say people prefer to carry phones with affordable price tag and keep changing them time and again.

सुविसु क्यान ईन्फोटेक २०१४ मा मुख्य प्रदर्शनी हल भित्र ३९ वटा, हल बाहिर ३ वटा ब्रान्डिङ्ग प्रदर्शनी कक्षहरु, ट्रसमा १४४, ओपन स्पेसहरु २० र फुुड स्टलहरु १५ गरी जम्मा २२१ स्टल (प्रदर्शनी कक्षहरु) रहनेछन् । यस पदर्शनीमा हार्डवेयर सेल्स तथा मेन्टेनेन्स्, पावर सोलुसन्स्, मोवाईल एसेसोरिज, डिलर र डिस्ट्रिव्युटर्स, ईन्टरनेट सेवा प्रदायक, टेलिकम्युनिकेशनस्, आई सी टी कलेज तथा ट्रेनिङ्ग ईन्स्टिच्युटहरु, सफ्टवेयर सोलुसनस्, पेमेन्ट सोलुसन्स र अन्य रहेका छन् । हालसम्म मुख्य प्रदर्शनीहल भित्र शत् प्रतिशत स्टल बुकिङ्ग भई सकेका छन् भने ट्रसमा ८० प्रतिशत स्टलहरु बुकिङ्ग भई सकेका छन् ।
विगतका वर्षहरुमा पनि क्यान ईन्फोटेकमा सर्वसाधारणहरुको उत्साहजनक सहभागिता रहेको कुरा यहाँहरु समक्ष विदितै छ । यस पटक पनि त्यो उत्साहमा अझ उर्जा थपिने छ भन्ने आशा हामीले लिएका छौं । गत वर्षको क्यान ईन्फोटेक मा ४,३१,३५० जना अवलोकनकर्ता रहेकोमा यस पटक हामीले ४,५०,००० भन्दा बढी अवलोकनकर्ता आउने आशा लिएका छौं । सुविसु क्यान ईन्फोटेक २०१४ अवलोकनका लागि सर्वसाधारणहरुलाई प्रवेश शुल्क रु १००÷– र विद्यार्थीहरुलाई रु ५०÷– तोकिएको छ । २०७० पौष २१ गतेलाई विजनेश डे को रुपमा घोषणा गरिएको छ । उक्त दिनको प्रवेश शुल्क रु १००÷– तोकिएको छ । उक्त दिन विषेश गरी विजनेश हाउसेस हरुले आफ्नो व्यापार प्रवद्र्धनकोे लागि विभिन्न डिलर र भेन्डरहरुसँग प्रत्यक्षरुपमा विजनेश डिल  गर्न सक्नुहुनेछ ।

सुविसु क्यान ईन्फोटेक २०१४ को अवलोकनका लागि सरकारी विद्यालयहरुबाट अग्रिम रुपमा लिखित अनुरोध सहितको नामावलीका आधारमा सम्बन्धित विद्यालयका विद्यार्थीहरुलाई निःशुल्क प्रवेशको व्यवस्था गरिएको छ । आम जनमानस माझ सूचना तथा सञ्चार प्रविधिको प्रयोगलाई प्रोत्साहन गर्ने उद्देश्यले यस सुविसु क्यान ईन्फोटेक २०१४ मा अनलाईन टिकट खरीदको अग्रीम रुपमा व्यवस्था मिलाईने छ भने अनलाईन टिकट खरीदमा २५ प्रतिशत छुट समेत प्रदान गरीनेछ ।

“मोवाईल टेक्नोलाजी फर स्मार्ट सोसाईटी” मुल विषयमा सम्पन्न हुन लागेको उक्त सम्मेलनमा नविनतम प्रविधि, एम–गभर्नेन्स, एम–कमर्श र पेमेन्ट, एम–बैंकिङ्ग, एम–एजुकेशन तथा मोबाईलले पारेको सामाजिक परिवर्तनको विषयमा राष्ट्रिय तथा अन्तराष्ट्रिय विषय विज्ञहरुले कार्यपत्र मप्रस्तुत गर्नुहुनेछ ।

20th CAN Info-Tech 2014 from Jan 2 in Kathmandu

Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is organizing the 20th edition of CAN Info-Tech - the annual information, communication and technology (ICT) show - from January 2 at the Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall.

Subisu is the title sponsor of the annual ICT event, CAN informed at a press meet here on Sunday.

At the press meet, CAN officials said the main objective of the event is to promote Nepali ICT industry and bring together all the stakeholders of the industry within a roof where problems and prospects of ICT industry can be discussed.

“CAN has been organizing number of national level IT fairs since two decades aiming to promote ICT industry of the country. The Info-Tech this year will be the best platform where information on global trend of IT development along with knowledge on latest technological innovations can be gained,” CAN President Binod Dhakal said.

Amrit Kumar Pant, general secretary of CAN, said Nepal is still far behind compared to other countries in terms of technological development. “The fair will give a scenario of technological development in Nepal and across the world,” added.

According to the organizers, the six-day event will have 221 stalls, including 15 food stalls, of more than 90 companies.

“More than 80 percent of stalls have already been booked,” said Pant.

The Info-Tech will have stalls of hardware sales and maintenance, power solutions providers, dealers of mobile phones and accessories, hardware dealers and distributors, Internet service providers, telecommunications, ICT colleges and training institutes, software solutions and payment solutions, among others.

The organizers are expecting participation of more than 450,000 visitors. Ticket rates for the event have been fixed at Rs 100 for general visitors and Rs 50 for students.

Aiming to draw around 450,000 footfalls during the event, organizers have fixed the entry fee of Rs 100 to general visitors and Rs 50 to students. Similarly, CAN will also arrange online ticket booking system. Visitors buying tickets will get 25 percent discount, according to the organizers.

Meanwhile, CAN has fixed January 5 as ´Business Day´. On the day, it will charge Rs 100 to all the visitors.

According to CAN, the ´Business Day´ will provide a platform for buyers and sellers to strike a deal.

 ICT conference on Jan 5 and 6

  Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is organizing Subisu ICT Conference in Kathmandu on January 5 and 6. Subisu is the title sponsor of both CAN Info-Tech and ICT Conference. According to the organizers, the conference will focus on ´Mobile Technology for Smart Society´ theme.
