Three young entrepreneurs have received ´Youth Entrepreneurial Award for Skilled People 2014´.
Minister of Youth and Sports Purushottam Poudel handed over the award to
Bharat Kumar Bhattarai of Bajra Hotel, Parsu Ram Chaudhary of Pragati
Tailors and Saraswoti Malla of Jagriti Tarkari Farm. They received
certificates and tools worth Rs 15,000 to start their business.
Thirty seven youth entrepreneurs, including 15 women, from 17 districts
had applied for the award. Of the 37 applicants, the organizers had
selected seven finalists -- Amit Gurung, Bharat Kumar Bhattarai, Bhim
Maya Magar, Dharma Raj Thapa, Parsu Ram Chaudhary, Saraswoti Malla and
Shova Khadka.
The award ceremony was jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and
Sports and Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) on the
occasion of International Youth Day.
After receiving the award, Chaudhary said his tailor was becoming
popular and that he wishes to open a garment industry if he receives
support from the government and other organizations.
According to AYON, the applicants were judged on the basis of four criteria: innovation, income, sustainability and impact.
Devraj Bharadwaj, president of AYON, said it is high time the government and other organizations focused on youth employment.
The theme for this year awards was ´Mentally Fit Youth for Prosperity
