| | Ncell has unveiled a new program named ´Ncell App Camp’ to encourage young innovators to develop mobile apps.
Announcing the camp by organizing a press meet on Monday, Erim
Taylanlar, CEO of Ncell, said the aims to contribute to drive innovation
and make Nepali youngsters part of the worldwide mobile app industry.
The participants of the camp will showcase their apps in a competition to be held in Kathmandu in December.
Ncell said the new program is a part of its corporate social
responsibility (CSR) to unleash the country´s digital potential and
inspire youth to build innovative business.
“The App Camp will be a multi-stage event, which will provide unique
opportunity to mobile enthusiasts to first acquire priceless global and
local knowledge of app business. The champion among developers will get s
chance to participate in app competition held in Europe,” Ncell said in
a statement.
Ncell has opened application in four categories -- agriculture,
corporate solutions, education and tourism. Mobile developers and
enthusiasts can take part as a team for free.
“Agriculture, corporate solutions, education and tourism are major
contributors of Nepali economy, wherein creative youth can make a huge
difference by coming up with tools to enhance efficiency and
productivity,” Sanju Koirala, corporate communication director of Ncell,
said at the program. “This platform will provide an opportunity for the
fresh youths to be an entrepreneur.”
Developers can create app for any platforms like Android, iOS, Windows, SMS and J2ME, among others.
Ncell has invited Young Innovations to facilitate the App Camp. Shedding
light on the process of Ncell App Camp, Bibhusan Bista of Young
Innovations said 150 best workable ideas will be selected and the teams
will be invited to take part in capacity building seminars. During the
seminars, the teams will undergo coaching on various aspects of app
making and business development.
“The seminars will impart priceless knowledge of the market, app
development and business development from experts with national and
international experiences,” Bista said, adding, “Once the teams submit
their refined ideas through online, six best ideas from each category --
that is 24 teams in total -- will be selected for the final competition
which will be held between December 9 and11.”
The thematic winners will receive cash prize of Rs 250,000 each, while
the overall winner will take home an additional Rs 500,000. The overall
winner will also get Ncell sponsorship to participate in a similar
overseas app camp to be held in Europe.
Ncell launches Android app
Ncell, on Monday, unveiled mobile application in Android platform that
enables its customers to readily acquire all information about Ncell
products, services, schemes, and also support them to easily check their
balance, top up balance, buy data packs and other services, and
transfer balance, among others.
"We are glad to unveil to our customers Ncell App that provides a
complete self-service solution," Ncell CEO Erim Taylanlar said,
unveiling the app.
The App consists of features for both pre-paid and postpaid customers.
