    This year 2069 (2012-13) has been the year that has marked as 50 years of NEA\'s relentless journey towards prosperous Nepal. All engineers contributed to celebrate golden jubilee of NEA that was successfully organized with grandeur on Shravan 3, 2069 BS. And, now, with the pulsating rhythms of all Nepali engineers, NEA is poised to organize its yet another gala event, the 13th -National Convention on Baishakh 15 - 17, 2070 (April 28 - 30,2013) in Kathmandu. All engineers are requested to book the dates exclusively for the event. Nepal has witnessed a long transition after the successful peoples\' movement of 2062/ 63 (2005/ 06). Lately, political parties have been found making efforts to find some common points to forge consensus. However, the impact of the transition is sure to last much longer in terms of prosperity of the nation. Simply put, the nation has lost valuable period of years, almost a decade. But engineers, the architects of the foundation of the prosperity, have to find some ways to break the barriers and connect the present transition to the future that must be safer, progressive and prosperous. Engineers must maximize their efforts in utilizing their wisdom and vision. Hence, considering all the suggestions, numerous options that were received and followed by series of discussions, NEA has decided to float the following theme for the upcoming 13th National Convention of Engineers.
    THEME:
    \"Culminating Engineers\' Vision and Wisdom for Connecting Transition to the Prosperous Future\".

    This theme has been divided into following six (6) sub-themes.

    SUB THEMES:
  • 1.Transition and Change Agenda
  • 2.Energy Development, the Engine of Nepal\'s Growth
  • 3.Urban Development for Tomorrow
  • 4.Infrastructure Development to Re-unite Nepal
  • 5.Digitalizing for modernizing Nepal and
  • 6.Irrigation, Disaster Management and R&D Each of these sub-themes has been enriched with related subject areas and prospective titles in which the papers could be contributed. However, please remember that the paper must give reflections on making \'connect\' of the \'present transition\' towards \'prosperous future\'.

    1. Transition and the Change Agenda
    -Political transition and breaking it towards peace and stability; Agenda of transitioning towards federal democratic republic Nepal; Building democratically progressive Nepal; NEA constitutional reforms, Social roles of engineers; Engineers’ ethical issues; Politics in education, Quality higher engineering education; Engineers as a change agent; Progressivism versus absolutism; etc
    2.Energy Development, the Engine of Nepal’s Growth
    -Hydropower development vision (10 and 20 years); Problems, barriers, issues and challenges in hydropower development; Strategic Planning; Policy deficiencies and breaking the barriers; Hydropower development strategies; Hydropower, the engine of Nepal’s per capita growth; Perspectives and Prospective of renewable and alternative energies; Strategy mixing the energies; BOOT, PPP modalities; Hydropower development and employment opportunities; Alternative energy development and growth of entrepreneurship; Building prosperous Nepal through Hydropower development; Challenges in building friendly environment for attracting and retaining foreign direct investments (FDI); Economic growth versus ultra-nationalism; etc
    3.Urban Development for Tomorrow
    -Strategic urban development; Growing cities and rising challenges; Planning and managing KMC (Kathmandu metropolitan city) for better tomorrow; Rebuilding cities in Nepal; Breaking the barriers for cultural cities; Building safer houses; Enforcing and awareness to adopting building codes; Planning resourceful cities; Retrofitting, minimizing the possible loss of life and money; Preparing for risk reduction; etc
    4.Infrastructure Development to Re-Unite Nepal
    -Re-uniting (integrating) Nepal with strategic transport system; Challenges in developing rural road networks; Challenges in developing city transport system; Breaking the barriers towards modern mass transit system in cities;- begin from KMC; Issues in quality, comfortability and sustainability of the roads construction; PPP modalities; Institutional issues and challenges in developing local infrastructures; Role of construction materials in developing sustainable infrastructures; The implications of dozer culture in rural roads construction; etc.
    5.Digitalizing for Modernizing Nepal
    -The history of electronics, communication and information technology in Nepal; Integrating Nepal with communication and information technology; Issues in quality service; Public and private service providers; The challenges in electronics development in Nepal towards modernizing; Can One DDC-One ICTC concept be implemented?; The e- governance (zero- paper governance); The e- governance and people’ employment opportunities; Towards m-service provisions; etc
    6.Climate Change, Disaster Management and R&D
    -Issues regarding eco- climate, climate change and Nepal’s standpoints; Mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change; Challenges against building resilient Nepal; Issues related to EIA and IEE approval process for an project undertaking; Solid waste management; Natural disasters in Nepal, their nature, recurrence and impact on life, property and economy; Earthquake safety; Building safer Nepal; Floods and inundation; Landslides; Research works; Study works; etc So, All interested engineers are hereby kindly requested to submit the Interest and subject area, Abstract of the Paper, Full Paper and Power point Presentation Slides that (s)he wishes to write within the deadline date in any relevant subject areas as schedule mentioned below:

    2.Deadline to submit your full paper: April 7, 2013 (Chaitra -25th )
    3.Deadline to submit your PPT. Presentation Slides: April 17, 2013 (Baishakh- 4th )
